Rubber Track

Cranes have been used in one form or another to help people lift and lower all sorts of heavy materials for over 1500 years now. These powerful machines are generally used in construction projects because of their enormous lifting capabilities. While most people think of overhead cranes when they hear the word crane mentioned, there are many other types and sizes that are used in various industrial fields all over the world. When you look at just about any type of bridge, and tall building in the world, you can bet that some type of crane was used in its construction.

Most types of construction cranes are mobile and operated by human hands, but there are other types in use that are driven by infrared, and radio waves, along with remote control models. Some types of cranes move on wheels, while others move on tank-like tracks. Other common types of cranes include aquatic (floating), tower, telescopic, loader, crawler, and aerial. Most of these different cranes generally use a combination of levers, pulleys, hoists, trolleys, and hydraulics to complete their tasks.

Two of the most interesting types of cranes are the aquatic, and aerial versions. Aquatic cranes are floating units that are used primarily for the construction of water related objects such as ports, and bridges. These contraptions can also be used to load and unload various types of cargo on and off of freighters, and some types can even be used to raise sunken ships.

Aerial cranes are often attached to helicopters so they can reach places that other types of cranes can’t get to. They are sometimes also used to help out in the construction of high rise buildings, and can be used to help battle fires as they are capable of carrying and dropping large amounts of water.

You must be specially trained to operate any type of crane properly and you should always wear a hard hat while operating one of these machines and while walking anywhere close to a working unit. While cranes are designed to safely lift, lower and move heavy objects from place to place they do sometimes tip over while in use. However, this is quite a rare occurrence.
